Dana White Says Conor McGregor Is Retired, But Wouldn’t Be Shocked If He Fought In 2021

Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor announced that he was retiring yet again a short time after the conclusion of UFC 250.

UFC President Dana White says that the former two division UFC champion is still retired, but he wouldn’t be shocked if McGregor returned to the Octagon next year.

“There’s no doubt that Conor McGregor’s one of the best in the world,” White said to Colin Cowherd (via Mookie Alexander of Bloody Elbow). “What’s going on with Conor McGregor is what goes on with all professional fighters when they become extremely wealthy and Conor McGregor is rich. He gets to pick and choose what he wants to do now and he’s at that point in his career where he’s got a few fights left. As of right now he’s retired. I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out.”

McGregor last competed in the main event of UFC 246, scoring a first round TKO victory over Donald Cerrone.

The now retired McGregor has been radio silent for the most part since announcing his retirement, occasionally hinting at fights with former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje, among others.
