Dana White Says Cynthia Calvillo Is In The Title Mix At Flyweight

Cynthia Calvillo and Jessica Eye competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Eye vs. Calvillo, with Calvillo scoring a unanimous decision win.

UFC President Dana White says that the decision win put Calvillo in the title mix in the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division.

“She looked great tonight,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “She fought the perfect fight. I think that (her) standup looked good (and) her ground game looked good. Going into the fifth round, she stood, didn’t sit on the stool, had a strong fifth round. She looked good. (It was) her first five-round fight. Yeah, she looked good. Listen, yeah, if you beat the No. 1 contender. Look at Gilbert Burns. It just happened to him. When you beat No. 1? Yeah.”

The updated rankings for the weight class won’t be revealed until tomorrow, but Calvillo is expected to surge up in a major way, while Eye is expected to go down.

Calvillo was also making her UFC Women’s Flyweight Division debut in the bout and she also defeated an overweight Eye, who came in 0.25 pounds over the flyweight weight limit. Calvillo also holds a win over Joanne Calderwood, albeit at strawweight, and Calderwood is expected to get the next shot at the women’s flyweight title.
