Dana White Says Henry Cejudo Should Defend Or Vacate The Flyweight Title

Two division UFC champion Henry Cejudo has yet to defend the UFC Flyweight Title since winning it at UFC 227 in August of 2018.

UFC President Dana White says that Cejudo should defend that title against Joseph Benavidez or vacate the gold.

“Right now, we have some things playing out at 135 pounds,” White said after this weeks Contender Series (via John Morgan & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “What we’d like to see Cejudo do is defend his title against Benavidez. Benavidez is ready. It’s the right thing to do. If he can’t, then he needs to give up one of the belts.”

Benavidez and Cejudo have met once before, with Benavidez scoring a unanimous decision win at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale.

White cites the previously victory by Benavidez as to why he should be getting the next shot at Cejudo.

“We’re playing some things out to see who’s going to be the next challenger at ’35,” White said. “Benavidez is ready to go. He deserves it, and he’s got a win over Cejudo.”

Cejudo hasn’t decided on what to do next, as he has recently challenged UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko to an intergender bout.
