Dana White Says Jennifer Maia Gets Next Shot At UFC Women’s Flyweight Title

Jennifer Maia competed in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan, defeating Joanne Calderwood by first round submission.

The victory was a massive one for Maia, as UFC President Dana White says she gets the next shot at UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via Nolan King & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “That’s the fight. Listen, I have a lot of respect for JoJo. She’s been working hard, taking her career very seriously. She’s been back on track since she moved to Vegas. Jennifer looked damn good tonight. Yeah, it makes sense for her and Valentina to fight.”

Calderwood was scheduled to get the next women’s flyweight title shot, but the loss to Maia destroyed those plans.

There is no word at this time as to when the women’s flyweight title bout will happen, as Shevchenko is currently on the shelf with a knee injury. Maia, who is a former Invicta FC Flyweight Champion, will get her first shot at the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title.
