Daniel Cormier Closes The Book On A Potential Brock Lesnar Bout

UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is defending the gold against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic in a rematch at UFC 241.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion and former WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was reportedly going to be fighting Cormier next after a confrontation at UFC 226. Lesnar has since retired and has stayed with the WWE, which is why Cormier is closing the book on a potential bout with him.

“I think the book is closed on Brock Lesnar,” Cormier said at the UFC 241 open workouts (via Steven Marrocco & Dave Mandel of MMA Junkie). “For me, at least. I’m not worried about nothing that I can’t control. I’m going to fight Stipe and get my hand raised.”

Lesnar last competed at UFC 200, where he scored a unanimous decision victory over Mark Hunt, but would fail two drug tests in line with the event and he hasn’t competed since.

Cormier is now keeping a promise made to Miocic, previously saying he would grant the former heavyweight champion a rematch if a bout with Lesnar didn’t come together.

UFC 241 takes place on Saturday, August 17 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
