Dominick Reyes Says Coronavirus Pandemic Has Stalled Talks For Jon Jones Rematch

Dominick Reyes and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones met for the first time at UFC 247, with Jones scoring a controversial decision victory.

A defeated Reyes says there were talks taking place for the rematch, but they stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Yes, we were talking early fall," Reyes told ESPN. "We started moving along, moving along, and then [COVID-19]. And that was it."

The UFC already had to postpone three events due to the coronavirus and they are still searching for a home to hold UFC 249 at.

Jones was recently involved in another legal matter that saw the fighter plead guilty to a DWI, but Reyes doesn?t want to see Jones get suspended by the UFC, because a suspension could delay the potential rematch.

"Personally, I hope he doesn't get suspended, because I really need to rematch him for myself," Reyes said. "I've always respected Jon as a fighter. I've always respected him in the Octagon, but outside the Octagon, it's the same crap he's been doing before that disappointed me when I was a fan of him. I was a fan of him, he did that and it disappointed me and made me not a fan, when he hit that pregnant lady. Now he's doing the same thing."

If Jones isn?t available for the time being, another top contender in Thiago Santos has called out Reyes for an interim light heavyweight title fight.
