Dominick Reyes Won’t Chase Jon Jones To Heavyweight

Dominick Reyes has no interest in following Jon Jones to heavyweight.

Reyes and former UFC light heavyweight champion Jones met in the main event of UFC 247, which Jones won via a controversial decision. Jones has since relinquished the light heavyweight title and moved up a weight class to heavyweight, but Reyes won't follow suit.

“I got no interest in going up to heavyweight,” Reyes said at the UFC 253 virtual media day (via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “If anyone wants to come down or up, I’m all for it. But I’m a light heavyweight, I’ve always been a light heavyweight, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Reyes will now fight Jan Blachowicz in the co-main event of UFC 253, with the winner becoming the new UFC light heavyweight champion. The forthcoming title challenger says fans can expect to see the best version of himself at UFC 253.

“Part of me is, but at the same time it’s another fight,” Reyes said. “It’s all about ‘what have you done for me lately’ in this industry, and this fight is the latest and greatest Dom Reyes, so you’ll see.”

UFC 253 takes place on Saturday, September 26 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
