Dustin Poirier-Justin Gaethje BMF Title Rematch Headlines UFC 291 In July

A rematch between former interim UFC lightweight champions, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje has been set to headline UFC 291 on July 29 from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

UFC President Dana White officially confirmed the booking via a live video stream on Tuesday night, revealing that Poirier and Gaethje will compete in a five-round bout for the promotion's vacant BMF title. Former two-time title challenger, Jorge Masvidal, who recently retired at UFC 287 last month, won the belt against Nate Diaz back at UFC 244 in November 2019 in the organization's only BMF title fight to date.

Poirier is 4-1 in his last five Octagon appearances and is coming off a third-round submission win over former title challenger, Michael Chandler, at UFC 281 this past November. Gaethje on the other hand is 2-2 in his last four fights and will look to build on a majority decision victory over, Rafael Fiziev, at UFC 286 in March. Poirier won the pair's first meeting at UFC on Fox 29 in April 2018 via a fourth-round TKO.
