Eddie Hearn Interested In Bringing Josh Taylor On Board To Matchroom Boxing

Eddie Hearn wants to sign world champion Josh Taylor to some type of deal in order to have him be involved with Matchroom Boxing.

During an interview with iFL TV, Hearn addressed any potential rumors of Matchroom Boxing looking to sign Taylor to their growing stable of fighters. While Hearn said he doesn't want to take Taylor away from Cyclone Promotions entirely, he admitted that the interest in the newly-crowned IBF junior welterweight champion is real.

"Well there is truth in would we want Josh Taylor in Matchroom? 100 percent absolutely. I think he is a natural pay-per-view fighter. I think he's an excellent fighter, but are we trying to pinch him off Cyclone? No. We've spoken with Cyclone. We've told them about our interest in Josh Taylor. It's something to be worked out," Hearn said.

Taylor just won the IBF title with a unanimous decision win against Ivan Baranchyk in the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series on May 18 in Glasgow, Scotland.

When asked if a co-promotional deal can be done between Matchroom Boxing and Cyclone Promotions for Taylor, Hearn said absolutely. This wouldn't be the first time that Matchroom Boxing has signed boxers from other promotional companies on co-promotional deals and Hearn believes that Cyclone could be interested in that type of deal.

"It's not really a conversation we've explored in great detail, but I'd love to work with Josh Taylor. His last fight was on Sky, his last couple of fights were on DAZN, so I think it's a natural progression," Hearn said.

Taylor's next fight will be a WBA and IBF junior welterweight title unification against Regis Prograis in the WBSS finals. The finals still have no date or venue announced. The full interview can be seen in the video at the top of the page.
