Elwin Soto's first world title defense is set.
Golden Boy Promotions announced that Soto will defend his WBO light flyweight title against Edward Heno in the main event of a Thursday Night Fights card on October 24 in Indio, California.

Soto, riding a 13-fight win streak, won the WBO title with a come-from-behind knockout win over Angel Acosta in the opening seconds of the final round back in June. Soto, who was behind on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage, seriously hurt Acosta to start the 12th round and the referee stepped in to stop the bout and award the win to Soto.
After the fight, a visibly upset Acosta wanted a rematch, but the WBO went on to order Soto to fight Heno, the mandatory challenger to the title, within 120 days of the June 21 fight. October 24 falls on that 120-day deadline the WBO imposed on Soto in late June.
Heno, unbeaten in 19 pro fights, has won his last four fights , capturing the OPBF light flyweight title in that span. The 26-year-old Heno has knocked out his opponent five times in his 14 wins with the other five bouts on his record being draws. Heno has not fought since a wide unanimous decision win over former Japanese national title challenger Koji Itagaki in February.
