Exclusive: Dominick Reyes Says He Has No Jitters Leading Into UFC 218

MMA

Undefeated light heavyweight Dominick Reyes said he is ready to win in his second UFC fight, not showing any signs of nervousness with days before he’s back in the Octagon.

Reyes spoke to Fightful’s James Lynch during UFC 218 fight week and said although he believes he could have a big fight coming up, his mindset is to focus on the task at hand and pick up the win.

“I’d probably get a name opponent, I would imagine as well. I’m focused on taking care of business, handling Jeremy. That’s all I’m worried about. After the fight, I’ll start thinking about what’s next. I’m ready to take care of what I need to take care of,” Reyes said.

The undefeated Reyes will be fighting in his second career fight in the UFC. His first time around was a quick first-round TKO win against Joachim Christensen at UFC Fight Night 112, but Reyes fought as a last-minute replacement after Azamat Murzakanov got injured with only a couple of weeks before the fight.

With a full training camp in hand for this fight, Reyes said he’s ready, but that fighting a second UFC fight isn’t all that different from his first UFC fight in terms of having pre-fight jitters.

“Well I didn’t really have any jitters the first time. This time was more of a long, drawn-out process, having a full training camp, getting ready. It’s been good. I have no jitters. The only thing is when I say guys like Jose Aldo, Max Holloway and all those guys. Those guys I’ve been watching on TV all my whole life and I’m like, ‘Woah they’re here!’ Other than that it’s pretty cool,” Reyes said.

Reyes will be fighting Jeremy Kimball on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the UFC 218 preliminary card. UFC 218 takes place Saturday, December 2 from the Little Ceasers Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Fightful.com will have full, live coverage of the show, including a post-show podcast covering UFC 218, the TUF 26 Finale and Bellator 189.
