Derek Brunson makes some noise with his knockout of Lyoto Machida.
Last night at UFC Fight Night 119, Derek Brunson handed Lyoto Machida his third loss in a row. Machida was returning after a controversial suspension for a USADA violation. He had not fought since June of 2015, and many questions surrounded how he'd perform. Since Machida's last fight, Brunson had fought six times and won four of those bouts. Brunson went into the fight as a betting-odds favorite despite Machida being a former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion.
In the first round of their fight, Brunson landed a right hook and followed it up with right hands on the ground. The referee stopped the fight and Brunson won via knockout.
Twitter was filled with reactions to the quick victory from other fighters.
Very nice win for Brunson. He was more patient and he packs power in his hands. Crowd was silent— Chris Camozzi (@ChrisCamozzi) October 29, 2017
Great finish by Brunson! Still has that chin up when blitzing. But I guess when ur arms are that long and u hit that hard, u get away w/it— Aljamain Sterling (@FunkMaster_UFC) October 29, 2017
