Frankie Edgar Still Dropping To Bantamweight, Suffered Eye Injury At UFC Fight Night Busan

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar suffered a first round TKO loss to Chan Sung Jung at UFC Fight Night Busan.

The bout against Jung was at featherweight, but Edgar still plans on dropping to bantamweight in the future.

“I’m going to go down to bantamweight,” Edgar said to MMA Fighting. “That was the whole plan before this obviously. The cards have been stacked against me my whole career being the smaller guy. Going out there and fighting in Korea on short notice, that kind of stacked the cards even more. I think what I need to do is put myself in a favorable position to win my next fight, and that’s at 135.”

Edgar was supposed to drop to bantamweight later this month at UFC Fight Night Raleigh before accepting the short notice opportunity at UFC Fight Night Busan.

A defeated Edgar didn’t just suffer a loss at UFC Fight Night Busan, but the fighter also suffered a broken orbital bone as well.

“I broke my orbital,” Edgar said. “Nothing super bad, no surgery. Just six weeks to heal and I’m good to go.”

If Edgar’s timeline is accurate, it would mean that he can return to action by mid-February to early March.
