Frankie Edgar Wants Conor McGregor To Defend The Featherweight Title

While Conor McGregor’s historic accomplishment of becoming a double champion in the UFC may be what fans remember the most about UFC 205, Frankie Edgar doesn't think that gets the Irishman off the hook defending his 145-pound title.

Not only does Frankie Edgar want Conor McGregor to defend his championship, but Edgar thinks he should leapfrog Max Holloway and Jose Aldo to get a shot at the featherweight title holder.

Demetrious Johnson Reacts To Alexandre Pantoja's UFC 310 Callout

"I've gotta see how I feel tomorrow, but it seems like it would make sense for me (to fight McGregor in New York),” Edgar said to Submission Radio. "I don't know right yet. I mean sh-t, hopefully Conor if he wants to come back down to 45 and give me that title shot. But we'll see what happens. Yeah, I think whether he wins or loses, he should have to defend the '45 first before he does anything at '55. Unless he wants to give the '55 pound title up."

Edgar defeated Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205, but has come up short in his two featherweight championship opportunities, both against Jose Aldo. Edgar has lost four straight UFC championship fights, and has won only one of his last six title fights.

The next UFC event’s to be taking place in New York are UFC Fight Night 102 (Albany) and UFC 209 (Brooklyn), no fights have been announced for the Brooklyn event.
