Neal posted about his health scare on Instagram:
These past few week have been crazy, and that's putting it lightly. It's really hard to try to find an eloquent way to say "I almost died." So screw it.. I almost died.... This really put alot of things into perspective for me. Never did I ever think I would be hooked up to a dialysis machine before my 30s. Everything was going well for me. Was training everyday, making money at work, just signed a contract for a huge fight, then BOOM, life hit me with a check hook. I'm just glad to be home after having to spend 1 week in the ICU. Stay healthy out there y'all and listen to your body at all times. ------------
MMA DNA was the first to report that Lawler accepted the short notice opportunity against Magny.
Magny (23-7-0) enters the contest riding a two fight losing streak, defeating the duo of Jingliang Li and Anthony Rocco Martin. Magny hasn’t suffered a defeat in almost two years, with that last loss coming to Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires. Magny has competed thirty times as a professional MMA fighter and nearly half of those encounters went the distance.
Lawler (28-14-0-1NC) is competing for the first time in over a year and also enters the contest on a three fight losing streak. Lawler hasn’t picked up a victory in over three years, with that last win coming over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214. Lawler is a former UFC welterweight champion, defeating Johny Hendricks to win the gold at UFC 181 in July of 2015.
