Gilbert Burns Hopeful For Showdown With Khamzat Chimaev At UFC 273 In April

Former UFC welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns, is hoping for a five-round matchup with undefeated contender Khamzat Chimaev.

Burns recently spoke with The Schmo and revealed the promotion is targeting a bout between himself and Chimaev for UFC 273 on April 9 in Jacksonville, Florida. He's hoping the UFC will also make the fight a five-rounder as he wants to take Chimaev to deep waters.

“Just waiting on the UFC with the confirmation and the contract,” Burns said (MMA News). “But I’m already in camp. I’m already getting ready for April 9 in Jacksonville against Chimaev. That’s what I see. And I asked for five rounds. I don’t see no contract yet. I hope they do five rounds. And (I’m) just getting ready. They have two title fights, and then I asked for five rounds so it would be one before the title fights."
