GSP Doesn’t Care About Potential Fan Interest In UFC 217

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre returns after a four-plus year absence to challenge UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping for the gold at UFC 217.

Color commentator Joe Rogan recently stated that he heard ticket sales were low for the card, but GSP isn’t too concerned about that at all.

“I do not focus on that,” St. Pierre told MMA Junkie. “I don’t even care. I don’t care. I would rather make zero dollars and win my fight than make $10 million and lose my fight. This is my word, and I swear it’s true. It’s always been like that, even when I was poor. I want to win, and I don’t care about (money or recognition). They’re going to know me after I win.”

The UFC doesn’t release ticket sale information to the media, but there are still tickets available for the event as of this writing.

No matter what kind of sales number the tickets are doing, all GSP wants to do is win the UFC Middleweight Title.

“I want to win the title,” St. Pierre said. “I’m happy that I got everything lined up for a fight and it’s the best training I can do and lifestyle and everything. I’m happy to be here. I’m very scared and stressed and afraid to fail, but that feeling makes me better. I’m happy to be here.”

UFC 217 takes place on Saturday, November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
