HBO viewership for the Superfly 2 card is in.
The February 24 HBO boxing card from The Forum in Inglewood, California, drew an average of 639,000 viewers for the main event, according to Showbuzz Daily. The main event was Srisaket Sor Rungvisai defending his WBC super flyweight title against Juan Francisco Estrada by unanimous decision and it averaged 639,000 viewers, peaking at 753,000.
The final numbers are down from the first Superfly card, which took place last year and had Sor Rungvisai knock out Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez to retain the WBC title. The main event for the September Superfly card averaged 796,000 viewers, peaking at 835,000.
As for the other two fights that took place on the February Superfly card, the co-main event, McWilliams Arroyo vs. Carlos Cuadras, averaged 548,000 viewers and peaked at 598,000. The opening bout, Donnie Nietes defending his IBF flyweight title against Juan Carlos Reveco, drew an average viewership of 432,000 with a peak of 533,000.
The final numbers for the Superfly 2 card aren’t just down from the first Superfly card, but they’re also down from the first HBO boxing card of 2018. The January 27 HBO card peaked of 769,000 viewers while averaging 719,000 viewers for the main event, Lucas Matthysse vs. Tewa Kiram.
The next HBO boxing card will take place on March 3 at Madison Square Garden and will feature two light heavyweight world title fights including the return of WBO champion Sergey Kovalev. The HBO card will compete directly with Showtime, who is televising a live boxing card at the nearby Barclays Center on that same night.
