Ilia Topuria Congratulates Justin Gaethje, Says His Sight Was Gone In Both Eyes By The End Of The 2nd Round

Ilia Topuria lost the UFC Lightweight Championship to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 in a Fight of the Year candidate.

The fight ended after the fourth round when Topuria’s corner stopped the fight due to all the damage Topuria had taken. It looked like it was going to be over at the end of the third round when Torpuia stated he couldn’t see and the doctor advised that the fight should be stopped, but for some reason it continued.

On Instagram, Topuria posted the following statement:

“Justin, congratulations. You said you’d leave your mark on my face… and you did.

You took the sight from my right eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, from my left too.

No excuses.
I had one of the best camps of my life. I came in sharp, prepared, and ready. Last night was your night.

That’s the nature of this game. Glory and pain walk side by side.

I’ll heal. I’ll rest. And I’ll return stronger, wiser, and far more dangerous.

And trust me… this story between us is far from over.

We will have our rematch.”
