Israel Adesanya Says People Are Going To Wait A Long Time To See Him Lose

Israel Adesanya became the undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion after a second round knockout victory over Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC 243.

There are a lot of people who want to see Adesanya suffer his first professional MMA defeat, including top contender Paulo Costa, but Adesanya says people are going to have to wait a long time for that to happen.

“I like that fight because the casuals, they’re dumb,” Adesanya said at the UFC 243 post-fight press conference (via Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “They see a beefed-up beefcake like that, and they think ‘now that’s the guy.’ I’m still all hype, by the way. I’m still just a hype train. So they’ll see that and think that’s the guy, ‘that’s the guy.’ They just want to see me lose, but they’re going to be waiting for a long time.”

Adesanya has an 18-0-0 record as a professional MMA fighter and fourteen of those wins came by way of KO/TKO.

Costa and Adesanta had a little back and forth after the bout, which Adesanya says was just a way for them to sell a potential future bout.

“(I was trying to) sell the next fight a little bit, but at the same time, he’s a (expletive). He’s my (expletive),” Adesanya said. “I want to make him my (expletive). So that’s why I did what I did.”

The newly crowned middleweight champion had a fast rise to UFC gold, as he won the title in less than two years after debuting with the promotion.
