Jan Blachowicz Says Jon Jones Defeated Dominick Reyes At UFC 247

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones scored a controversial decision win over Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC 247, but one person who thought the judges had it right is Jan Blachowicz.

Blachowicz says that when it comes to his scorecard for the event, it was Jones defeating Reyes at UFC 247.

“I’m almost facing the champion of the division, but I scored it for Jon Jones,” Blachowicz said at the UFC 253 virtual media day (via Danny Segura of MMA Junkie). “It was really close. There was a really small difference between them. Maybe if he had one or two more punches, he would win the fight, but I scored it with my coaches and my team that Jon Jones won the fight. But I’m happy I’m fighting someone like Dominick Reyes also someone who’s among the best in the world, No. 1 in the division. It’s going to be an amazing fight.”

Reyes, whom Blachowicz says lost at UFC 247, will now fight Blachowicz for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 253. The light heavyweight contender, despite thinking Jones won at UFC 247, is happy to be fighting Reyes at UFC 253.

“I’m happy because I got a title shot,” Blachowicz said. “The title is what’s most important; the belt is what’s most important. Dominick Reyes is a great opponent. He almost beat Jon Jones, it was a close fight, so I’m happy to be fighting Dominick Reyes for the title.”

UFC 253 takes place on Saturday, September 26 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
