Jeff Horn Makes Quick Work Of Anthony Mundine, Knocks Him Out In First Round

Former world champion Jeff Horn bounced from his devastating loss in his last fight by devastating Anthony Mundine in just the first round of their fight.

On a boxing card in Brisbane, Australia that was streamed on ESPN+, Horn knocked out Mundine in the opening frame to pick up his first victory since 2017. The fight pitted two of the biggest names in Australian boxing today with the event taking place at SunCorp Stadium, the same venue Horn defeated Manny Pacquiao a year ago.

The fight started with Horn opening things up with feints before landing an overhand right to Mundine. Mundine recovered and threw some punches, but Horn answered back with a left hook that knocked out Mundine. The fight only lasted a minute and 36 seconds which is the shortest bout Horn has had since 2013 when he won the Australian National welterweight title.

With the win, Horn picked up the vacant WBA Oriental and WBO Oceania middleweight titles as the bout took place at a 71 kg (156.5 pounds) catchweight. It was Horn's first victory since defeating Gary Corcoran in 2017 to retain his WBO welterweight world title. Horn had only fought once in 2018 prior to fighting Mundine and that was a ninth-round stoppage loss to Terence Crawford.

The 43-year-old Mundine is now 1-3 in fights since the start of 2015. Prior to the fight, Mundine had stated this could be his final fight. Mundine made his pro debut in 2000, eventually winning the WBA super middleweight world title twice in the 2000s and amassing a 48-9 record.
