Jerwin Ancajas Looking To Unify Super Flyweight Titles With Juan Francisco Estrada

Super flyweight world champions Jerwin Ancajas and Juan Francisco Estrada are looking to get a unification down the road.

According to Nick Skok of RingTV (@NoSparring on Twitter), Ancajas' matchmaker Sean Gibbons said the priority is now to have the IBF titleholder unify with Estrada the newly-crowned WBC champion. No date was mentioned about when a potential unification can be made, however.

On the same day Skok reported the news, he appeared on the Fightful Boxing Podcast to further elaborate on what he was told. The podcast can be seen in the video below with Skok talking about the Ancajas-Estrada plans at around the 1:00:45 mark.

"Sean went ahead and informed me that their priority right now is to make a unification, barring that Ancajas can get his mandatories taken care of and that Estrada can get his mandatories as well. They would like to get Ancajas to go up against Juan Francisco Estrada in the very near future... If that gets made, I think that would be great for the division and that sets up more possibilities for everyone else," Skok said.

The news of the two being interested in fighting each other is no surprise given that both men made it clear their intention is to fight the other super flyweight champions. After Estrada defeated Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to win the WBC title in April, Estrada mentioned Ancajas as someone he would love to face next. Estrada, a two-division champion, has won his last three fights since losing the first encounter against Sor Rungvisai in February 2018.

Ancajas, the 115-pound division's longest reigning champion, has held the IBF title since 2016 when he defeated McJoe Arroyo. Ancajas has gone on to defend the belt seven times with his most recent defense being a sixth-round stoppage win over Ryuichi Funai back in May.
