Joanna Jedzrejczyk One Ups Tecia Torres At UFC Calgary

It's not often you see a fighter of Joanna Jedrzejczyk's caliber on FOX, third from the top of the card. As she attempted to climb the ladder back to a championship she established, Jedrzejczyk had Tecia Torres standing in her way.

For Torres, coming off of a loss, Jedrzejczyk was the highest profile opponent she could have asked for. Aside from the title fight she missed out on by losing her last fight, Jedrzejczyk was a best case scenario as a bounce back fight, at least when it came to her career. Round Three: The round begins with the fighters exchanging a few blows, Jedzrejczyk swings away at Torres to keep her at a distance. Torres charges forward and she swings away at Jedzrejczyk, Jedzrejczyk pops a kicking Torres with a right. Jedzrejczyk uses the jab to keep Torres at a distance, Jedzrejczyk follows that up with a counter right against a kicking Torres. Jedzrejczyk looks for a step in knee strike against Torres, Torres grabs a swinging Jedzrejczyk and she gets her against the cage wall. The fighters separate after Torres lands a right, Jedzrejczyk attacks Torres with a punching combination. Torres scores a takedown and Jedzrejczyk gets right back up, Torres gets Jedzrejczyk against the cage wall and Jedzrejczyk quickly spins her. Torres spins Jedzrejczyk into the cage wall as the round ends.

Official Result: #1 Joanna Jedzrejczyk def. #5 Tecia Torres by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Even with her back often against the cage, Jedrzejczyk was dominant in the clinch and chewed up the much smaller Torres on her way to a unanimous decision victory.

Joanna has expressed her willingness to move up in weight to Flyweight, but only after she regains the UFC Strawweight championship. According to UFC President Dana White, Joanna won't get that opportunity before another title challenger does.
