Joanna Jedzrejczyk Returning To Strawweight

Former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was last seen in action at UFC 231, losing a decision to UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko.

Jedrzejczyk is taking some time to heal up after UFC 231, but plans on returning to strawweight when she does return to action.

“I will go down to 115,” Jedrzejczyk said at a UFC 234 media session (via MMA Junkie). “I need some time to refresh my body, refresh my mind and I feel the fire. People define me as an athlete after my victory or lost fights, but I put on great camps. Before my last camp I was quality over quantity, but I did both. I’ve been working really hard for the last few years and I will be back stronger.”

The former women’s strawweight champion has a 9-2-0 record in the UFC Women’s Strawweight Division and defended the title five times before losing it at UFC 217.

One thing Jedrzejczyk also plans on doing is to travel to Brazil for UFC 237 so she can watch Rose Namajunas defend the gold against Jessica Andrade.

“I was getting mad at Rose,” Jedrzejczyk said. “Of course she’s the champ, but I was a busy champion. You cannot wait. You must defend your belt once in a year and I’m very happy I heard about this fight is happening. Definitely I want to go to Brazil and watch this fight. 99 percent I will go to Brazil to watch this fight live.”

Namajunas has twice before defeated Jedrzejczyk in the UFC, meaning that Jedrzejczyk may not get another title opportunity until Namajunas is no longer the champion.
