Joe Lauzon Talks Retirement Plans

MMA

Joe Lauzon will be competing for the first time this year at UFC Fight Night 103, where he will be taking on Marcin Held in the co-main event of the card.

While Lauzon still plans on competing for some time, he has been thinking about his future retirement plans and when he may retire.

An Interesting Comparison of MMA and UFC: Exploring Their Similarities and Differences

“I think it’s going to come down to (when he may retire), when am I not interested in going to the gym anymore – not interesting in training anymore,” he said to MMA Junkie Radio. “But right now, I love getting into the gym.”

Lauzon is taking on Marcin Held, a fighter known for his heel hooks and leg locks. Lauzon has prepared accordingly.

“I think it’s not the smartest thing in a fight, because you’re on bottom and you get punched in the head,” Lauzon said. “The reward is not usually worth the risk. I’ve got a feeling we’re going to take advantage of that. He’s going to go for leglocks, we’re going to defend them, and then I’m going to punch him. I think that’s going to add up. The smart plan is to stay away from the leglock stuff. Don’t play with fire more than you need to. Defend the leg locks and get away. But if we find ourself in a perfect situation, I think it would pretty awesome to submit this guy.”

UFC Fight Night 103 takes place on Sunday, January 15 from the talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona with Yair Rodriguez and BJ Penn headlining.
