Joseph Benavidez Open To Facing Deiveson Figueiredo For UFC Flyweight Title

Deiveson Figueiredo, after a first round submission win over Tim Elliott at UFC Fight Night Tampa, called out Joseph Benavidez for a UFC Interim Flyweight Title bout.

Benavidez, who UFC President Dana White says is next for two division UFC champion Henry Cejudo, is open to the idea of fighting Figueiredo.

The fighter took to Twitter to express an interest in fighting Figueiredo, while also commenting on the situation surrounding Cejudo:

Here is what Benavidez wrote:

“Hey guys, been trying to get an answer/decision from [Henry] Cejudo and the UFC about what he’s gonna do when he’s back in March. It’s not ideal but I’m willing to wait until then to fight him. But no one wants to be held up till March if he just wants to fight at bantamweight. So let’s get the show on the road! If you’re not coming back down, I’d be happy to fight [Deiveson] Figueiredo ASAP for the vacant flyweight title.”

There is no word yet on what the future of the flyweight division holds, as Cejudo is currently out of action after getting surgery and is also potentially negotiating a new deal with the UFC.
