Khabib Nurmagomedov Looking To Defend Title This Fall

MMA

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomdov has yet to defend the title since defeating Al Iaquinta in the main event of UFC 223 to claim the prize.

Even though he is still in the midst of Ramadan, a tentative plan for Nurmagomedov is to defend the title this Fall.

“I don’t know when it’s going to be but now we talk about this with the UFC,” Nurmagomedov said during an Instagram live chat. “It’s going to be maybe 9 September or maybe 6 October. I don’t know about opponent - Conor [McGregor], GSP [Georges St-Pierre], whoever. It doesn’t matter, we’ll see. Next couple of weeks it’s going to be very fun because now we’re beginning to talk about my next fight with the UFC.”

Nurmagomedov targets former two division champions Conor McGregor and Georges St. Pierre as potential opponents, but nothing is close to being finalized at this time.

The one thing Nurmagomedov has done while celebrating Ramadan is to still find time for some training at night.

“I feel great, I feel good,” Nurmagomedov said. “Now we have Ramadan. We’re training only at night. Feeling good, feeling great, my weight is good, my shape is good. I always train every day, sometimes two times.”

If Nurmagomedov does get his wish to defend the title in September or October, it could mean bouts at either UFC 228 or UFC 229.
