Manager Says Dana White Is Protecting Conor McGregor From Jorge Masvidal

Malki Kawa recently stated that either UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman or former two division UFC Champion Conor McGregor would be next for his client Jorge Masvidal.

UFC President Dana White said that McGregor won’t be next for Masvidal and Kawa believes White is trying to protect one of the UFC’s biggest stars.

“God bless Dana, he’s protecting Conor,” Kawa said to MMA Junkie. “He wants to make sure Conor doesn’t get his ass whooped. And that’s fine.”

McGregor has competed since a loss at UFC 229 and hasn’t picked up a victory in almost three years.

Kawa believes former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington could be next for Usman, but Kawa thinks that opportunity should go to Masvidal.

“If (Colby) beats Robbie, and he gets the next title shot, we’re OK,” Kawa said. “We already knew this going into the fight. We knew where we were placement wise. I just think it’s kind of sad that they would do any fight before Jorge. I think you’ve got to strike while the iron is hot, and you get the hottest fight there is possible, and that has to be Jorge vs. Usman.”

Outside of Covington (who competes at UFC Fight Night Newark), neither McGregor, Usman or Masvidal have fights booked at the moment.
