Matt Mitrione Willing To Fight Sergei Kharitonov Again

Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov headlined Bellator 215, with their bout ending in just fifteen seconds after Mitrione accidentally kicked Kharitonov in the family jewels.

The heavyweight isn’t happy with how that bout played out and would love another shot to fight Kharitonov.

“It’s not awesome, we’re not really happy about it, but we went out there and it just sucks that it was the very first connected strike in the entire fight,” Mitrione said on The MMA Hour. “And I told them, look, man, if there’s any way he can fight tomorrow, which would be Saturday, or any situation, he’s the only guy I really want to fight. I think it would be great, I think the fans want to see that fight so if we can run it back, I’ll do it.”

Kharitonov did have to make a pair of trips to the hospital to aid in his recovery, but was seen cage side the next night at Bellator 216.

Mitrione would like to fight again this May and feels that it would be the perfect time for a second bout with Kharitonov.

“The conversation of May 11 came up in, and that’s where, I’m from Illinois, I live in the Midwest and I feel like if I got to fight Kharitonov in Chicago I’d bring 1,000 people in,” says Mitrione.

There has been no response from Kharitonov as to whether or not he would accept a second fight against Mitrione.
