Mark Groves was sentenced to 27 months in prison by the Teesside Crown Court in England after he admitted to robbing an 83 year old woman in broad daylight this past February.

The reason Groves was apprehended according to a report from Metro (UK) is that amateur MMA fighter Macauley Peckitt saw what was going on during a walk with his girlfriend and dog. Peckitt would proceed to chase down Groves and would catch up to the robber before applying a rear naked choke to said criminal.

“I chased him for about 100m, kicked his legs and jumped on his back,” said Peckitt. “I got him in a hold called a rear naked choke.”

After apprehending the suspect, one thing the amateur fighter had warned Groves about during the altercation was that if the robber reached for his pockets, it would lead to the criminal being put to sleep. Police officers had arrived to the scene within minutes of the altercation taking place, since the incident occurred close to the Guisborough Police Station.

Peckitt holds a 2-1-0 record as an amateur MMA fighter, picking up victories over the duo of James McNulty and Jason Kenny. The fighter trains out of Middlesbrough Jiu Jitsu and plans on turning pro in the near future.
