Dillian Whyte To Face Oscar Rivas On July 20

Dillian Whyte will return to the O2 in London this summer for a heavyweight matchup against Oscar Rivas.

The British contender will look to continue his win streak against Rivas in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card on July 20 with the winner being at the top of the WBC rankings.

Whyte has won nine consecutive fights since his only pro loss which was against Anthony Joshua back in 2015. Since then, Whyte has ascended to the top of the WBC rankings, taking down a number of notable heavyweights along the way, including two wins against Derek Chisora, Joseph Parker, Robert Helenius and Lucas Browne. Whyte was originally ordered to face Dominic Breazeale for the interim WBC title but Breazeale soon managed to get a fight against Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title.

“I am very happy to be fighting again at The O2 in July. Oscar Rivas is undefeated and ranked in the top 10 across the board of all the governing bodies. He has been one of the most avoided heavyweight fighters in the last few years,” Whyte said in a press release.

Rivas has slowly ascended his way to becoming a contender after winning all 26 of his pro bouts. Rivas is coming off a 12th round stoppage victory over Bryant Jennings in the main event of a Top Rank card back in January, walking away with the IBF International, NABF and WBO-NABO heavyweight titles. The 31-year-old Rivas is currently ranked in the top 10 on all four major governing bodies in boxing’s heaviest weight class.
