Oscar De La Hoya Determined To Make Ryan Garcia-Gervonta Davis Matchup Happen: "This Can Be A Mega-Fight"

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is hopeful he can make a fight between his client, Ryan Garcia, and WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, happen in the immediate future.

De La Hoya spoke with Boxing Scene's Jake Donovan ahead of Garcia's comeback fight this weekend against former IBO lightweight champ, Emmanuel Tagoe, and was insistent on his desire to make the fight between the two undefeated lightweight stars a reality. Davis himself is scheduled to make his next title defense on May 28 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York against Rolando Romero.

“If there is a fight that would do over a million (Pay-Per-View) buys, it’s Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis,” De La Hoya said. “This can be a mega-fight and it needs to happen. I’m hearing rumblings that Tank Davis is leaving Mayweather or it’s his last fight. I personally would love to sit down with Mayweather and talk about making that fight happen. It will be easier talking and negotiating with Mayweather than with anyone else. Look, Mayweather Promotions has done a great job with Tank Davis. That’s the super-fight to make in the near future. That’s the fight we want. Ryan Garcia is on the verge of greatness. Those are the fights you have to make.”
