PFL 1 Card Undergoes Changes, Including Loss Of Heavyweight Bout

MMA

The Professional Fight League starts their inaugural season tonight, but the card has undergone quite a few changes.

A heavyweight division encounter between UFC veteran Shawn Jordan and Philipe Lins has been canceled because Jordan missed weight for the fight, coming in at 275.2 pounds, which is 9.2 pounds over the allowance. A PFL official has told Newsday that Lins will get three points for coming in on weight for the now-canned encounter.

Also, a pair of bouts were altered due to a rule being enforced by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) that says that heavyweight fighters must weigh-in within 25 pounds of each other. That rule caused a bout between Alex Nicholson (214 pounds) and Kelvin Tiller 265.4 pounds) to be canned due to that rule.

Nicholson will now face Jake Heun (224 pounds) and Tiller will now face Heun;s original opponent in Caio Alencar (243.2 pounds). The rest of the 11 fight card went unchanged, as the card is a mix of featherweight and heavyweight bouts.

Professional Fighters League 1 takes place on Thursday, June 7 from The Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Andre Harrison and Jumabieke Tuerxun headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the NBC Sports Network.
