Report: Alejandro Perez Tests Positive For COVID-19, Off UFC Fight Island 5

Thomas Almeida is going to need a new opponent to compete against at UFC Fight Island 5 because Alejandro Perez has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been pulled from the card.

Milenio first reported the news, but no statement from either Perez or the UFC has been released at this time. Almeida is expected to remain on the card, as UFC officials are seeking a replacement opponent for him to fight.

Almeida (21-3-0) has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner with that lone win coming over Albert Morales at UFC Fight Night 100. Almeida is competing for the first time in almost three years, with his last fight occurring in January of 2018. Almeida has picked up 17 of 21 wins by way of KO/TKO, with another three coming by way of submission.

UFC Fight Island 5 takes place on Saturday, October 10 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
