Report: Ben Askren Faces Demian Maia This September

MMA

A welterweight division attraction may be taking place on a UFC card this September according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN as #10 Ben Askren is going to be in action against #12 Demian Maia.

Askren (19-1-0-1NC) is looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Jorge Masvidal via first round knockout at UFC 239. Askren was on the wrong side of UFC history with that loss, as the five second knockout was the quickest knockout loss in the promotion’s history. Askren has competed twenty one times as a professional MMA fighter and seven of those bouts went the distance.

Maia (27-9-0) enters the contest on a two fight winning streak, defeating the duo of Lyman Good and Anthony Rocco Martin. Maia has suffered nine losses as a professional MMA fighter and eight of them have come by way of decision. Maia has previously challenged for both the UFC Welterweight Title and UFC Middleweight Title, losing to Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva respectively.

The UFC currently has four events scheduled for the month of September, beginning with the UFC 242 show on September 7 and ending with the UFC Fight Night Copenhagen card on September 28.
