The infection apparently began after Aldo got a small cut on his knee, it is unknown how that cut on the knee happened. Despite the bacterial infection, a recovering Aldo is still expected to heal in time and face Volkanovski this May at UFC 237.

Aldo does plan on retiring after fighting twice more, with the bout against Volkanovski serving as one of those two final encounters. There has been no official comment from either Aldo or the UFC at this time as to the status of the fighter.

A recovering Aldo is in the midst of a two fight winning streak, with those victories coming over the duo of Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano. Aldo is also ranked #1 in the UFC Featherweight Division, putting him in range for one more potential shot at the gold.

UFC 237 takes place on Saturday, May 11 from the Arena Da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil with Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.

It has now been revealed that Aldo has been released from the hospital this past Sunday and the bout with Volkanovski will remain on the UFC 237 card at this time, with the latest updated provided by Combate. All treatments were reportedly successful in healing the fighter from the bacterial infection.
