A lightweight division attraction is scheduled to happen sometime in early 2019 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as #6 Justin Gaethje is in action against #7 Anthony Pettis.
Gaethje (19-2-0) has won just two of four fights under the UFC banner, with those victories coming over the duo of Michael Johnson and James Vick. Gaethje was the first and only World Series Of Fighting Lightweight Champion, starting his reign at the WSOF 8 after defeating Richard Patishnock by first round TKO. Gaethje has picked up nineteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and sixteen of them have come by way of KO/TKO.
Pettis (21-8-0) has won just two of four bouts since returning to the lightweight division in 2017, having beaten the duo of Jim Miller and Michael Chiesa. Pettis is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, defeating Ben Henderson by first round submission at UFC 164 to claim the gold. Pettis has previously challenged for the UFC Interim Featherweight Championship, losing to Max Holloway via third round TKO at UFC 206.
There is no word at this time as to what event this lightweight division affair could take place at, but eleven events have already been announced by the promotion for the first quarter of 2019.
