A women’s strawweight division fight may be coming to UFC 223 according to MMA NYTT as #4 Karolina Kowalkiewicz could be in action against #9 Felice Herrig.
Kowalkiewicz (11-2-0) has won just one of her last three fights under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jodie Esquibel at UFC Fight Night Gdansk. Kowalkiewicz has previously challenged for the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title, losing to then champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 205. Kowalkiewicz has only seen one of her six UFC bouts end with a finish and that was a submission defeat to Claudia Gadelha at UFC 212.
Herrig (14-6-0) enters the fight on the strength of a four bout winning streak, last defeating Cortney Casey by decision at UFC 218. Herrig has only suffered a single defeat thus far in the UFC and that came to Paige VanZant at UFC On Fox 15. Herrig also spent a little time competing in Bellator MMA, where she holds a victory over fellow UFC fighter Heather Clark.
UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
