A bantamweight division attraction between #5 Pedro Munhoz and former UFC Lightweight Champion #7 (Featherweight) Frankie Edgar has been moved off next month’s UFC 252 card and will now be the main event for the August 22 UFC card.
Raphael Marinho of Combate first reported the news surrounding the bout.
Munhoz (18-4-0-1NC) is competing for the first time in over a year, as his last bout was a loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 238. Munhoz has won three of his last five in the UFC, with those wins coming over Brett Johns, Bryan Caraway and Cody Garbrandt. Munhoz has suffered four losses as a professional MMA fighter and all of them came in the UFC.
Edgar (23-8-1) is making his UFC Bantamweight Division debut in this fight and does so having won just one of his last four bouts. Edgar is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, defeating BJ Penn to win the gold at UFC 112 in April of 2010. Edgar has competed in three different weight classes in the UFC and has been with the promotion for over thirteen years.
UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar takes place on Saturday, August 22 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
