Zuffa Boxing and the expected debut of Claressa Shields has reportedly been postponed.
A card featuring Shields vs. Amanda Serrano was expected to serve as the debut of Zuffa Boxing on December 11, according to a report last week from the Montreal Journal. The Athletic’s Sarah Shephard wrote in a follow-up tweet that UFC President Dana White's boxing ambitions are on ice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite reports to the contrary @TheAthleticBOX understands there will be no Zuffa women’s boxing event held in Nevada in December due to the current challenges posed by COVID. Huge shame - would have been a big opportunity for some of the biggest names in women’s #boxing.— Sarah Shephard (@SarahShepSport) November 11, 2020
Real kicker for the likes of Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano who I understand were both due to have unification fights lined up.— Sarah Shephard (@SarahShepSport) November 11, 2020
The Zuffa Boxing event was expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shephard says there are no immediate plans to reschedule the show.
