Reports: Santiago Ponzinibbio Injured & Off UFC Fight Night Chile, Shogun Also Removed From The Card

Next months UFC Fight Night Chile card has taken some more hits, with the first being that Raphael Marinho of Combate is reporting that Santiago Ponzinibbio has suffered an injury and has been pulled from a main event fight against Kamaru Usman. Usman is expected to remain on the card at this time, but reports state that the fighter will only compete is a ranked opponent is replacing Ponzinibbio.

Usman (12-1-0) is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, with that last victory coming over Emil Meek at UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh. Usman has seen five of his seven bouts in the UFC go the distance, with the fighter picking up wins in each of those encounters. Usman has suffered a single defeat as a professional MMA fighters and that came to Jose Caceres by submission at Championship Fighting Alliance 11 in May of 2013.

Another hit the card has taken is that after the removal of Volkan Oezdemir from the card, a report from Combate is also saying that former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has also been pulled from the event.

A report from MMA Fighting is also stating that UFC officials are looking to reschedule Oezdemir vs. Rua for another card later this year.

UFC Fight Night Chile takes place on Saturday, May 19 from the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile with Kamaru Usman headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
