UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero have clashed once before, with Whittaker earning a decision win and the UFC Interim Middleweight Title at UFC 213.

Romero then stepped in for an injured Whittaker to face former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold in the main event of UFC 221, picking up a third round knockout win.

Despite missing weight for the short notice encounter, a confident Romero said the UFC told the fighter the next middleweight title shot is coming his way.

Whittaker is on the road to recovery and has stated that a title defense against Romero would be ideal for UFC 225.

The champion shared that thought via Twitter:

UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
