UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero have clashed once before, with Whittaker earning a decision win and the UFC Interim Middleweight Title at UFC 213.
Romero then stepped in for an injured Whittaker to face former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold in the main event of UFC 221, picking up a third round knockout win.
Despite missing weight for the short notice encounter, a confident Romero said the UFC told the fighter the next middleweight title shot is coming his way.
Whittaker is on the road to recovery and has stated that a title defense against Romero would be ideal for UFC 225.
The champion shared that thought via Twitter:
Once he got word of what Whittaker had a posted, a response was issued for Romero and the Cuban fighter has seemingly accepted the bout:
Even though both fighters are seemingly ready to go to battle again in just a few months, nothing has been made official by the UFC at this time.
UFC 225 takes place on Saturday, June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
