Weili Zhang made some UFC history at UFC Fight Night Shenzhen, defeating Jessica Andrade to both win the UFC Women?s Strawweight Title and to also become the first Chinese born fighter to win UFC gold.
One of the people who were happy with the new champion?s performance was former UFC Women?s Bantamweight Champion and former Raw Women?s Champion Ronda Rousey.
Rousey would heap the following praise on the newly crowned champion via Instagram:
Zhang has also received a lot of praise from UFC President Dana White, who stated that a lot of fighters have turned down bouts against Zhang.
The former UFC Women?s Bantamweight Champion, who hasn?t competed since a first round TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, also said before the bout that she was proud of how the women have thrived in the UFC.
