Rory MacDonald Says GSP Is Still Training Like An Active Fighter

Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre announced his retirement from professional MMA competition earlier this year.

Bellator Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald is a former teammate of GSP and he says that St. Pierre is still training like an active fighter.

“He’s [St-Pierre] still training, he’s still improving,” MacDonald said to TSN (via Lewis Mckeever of Bloody Elbow). “He’s living life, he’s good, but he’s doing all the same hard training. Like, I’m training hard for a fight and I’ll show up at the track to do sprints, and he shows up half an hour later to do his work. So it’s like, the guy doesn’t slow down. He’s programmed for physical improvement. He’s still gaining. Even though he’s got no competition to look forward to, he’s working hard.”

GSP last competed at UFC 217, defeating Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight Championship. GSP has reportedly wanted to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov before retiring, but the UFC brass didn’t put the bout together.

Bellator 220 takes place on Saturday, April 27 from the SAP Center in San Jose, California with Rory MacDonald and Jon Fitch headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on DAZN.
