Sam Alvey Doesn’t Think Teammate Dominick Reyes Gets An Immediate Rematch With Jon Jones

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones scored a unanimous decision victory over Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC 247.

While an immediate rematch seemed all but certain to some, one person who doesn’t expect it to happen is Reyes' teammate in Sam Alvey.

Unranked UFC Fighters to Watch out for in 2024

“I don’t think he is getting the rematch. Jon wants Blachowicz. I think we will see Blachowicz get Jones and we will see Reyes fight Corey Anderson. Anderson doesn’t want to fight Dom but he doesn’t have a choice,” Alvey said to BJPenn.com. “If and when he beats Corey, Dom will get the rematch. Although I think Dom won the fight and deserves an immediate rematch, all signs point to it not happening, unfortunately.”

Reyes is still ranked #1 in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division, while Blachowicz sits at #4 in the weight class.

Alvey and Reyes train together regularly, which is something that Alvey finds to be an inspiration.

“It is inspiring. I know how well I can do against him and I can compete and beat the best in the world. I have to do what I know I can do,” he said.

The light heavyweight contender in Alvey was supposed to return to action later this month at UFC Fight Night Columbus, but that event has been postponed due to the coronavirus.
