Stephen Thompson Has No Plans Of Retiring

Stephen Thompson is back in action tonight at UFC Fight Night Nashville, facing former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis in the main event.

The welterweight contender is 36 years old, but don’t expect to see him slow down just yet as far as MMA fighting goes.

“It’s not even up there yet,” Thompson said to MMA Junkie. “I guess I don’t know; I consider myself a young 36-year-old and I’ve got – people are fighting until later ages. (Daniel) Cormier is 39 or 40 and he’s the champ. I look at that as inspiration. I haven’t taken too much damage, so I’ve got a while left in this sport.”

UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier just turned 40 years old a few days ago and is expected to fight a few more times before retiring.

Thompson will only listen to two things when deciding to retire, which is the fighter’s coach and his body.

“I’ll do this as long as my body will let or when coach tells me I’m done,” he said. “I’d like to say I’m in my prime.”

UFC Fight Night Nashville takes place tonight from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee with Stephen Thompson and Anthony Pettis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
