There has been talk of a third fight between Miocic and Cormier for awhile now, but an eye injury that the champion suffered at UFC 241 has kept him out of the Octagon since.
Miocic, in a Twitter post, is stating that he would’ve already beaten DC for a second time and retired Cormier if it weren’t for the eye injury:
I’ve already said I’m going to fight DC. He just likes to make noise. My team is working on securing a training location and dates w UFC. I have five belts at home. I don’t need to sit on anything. If I didn’t have a torn retina, I would’ve already fought & retired @dc_mma . #SM https://t.co/6ZHnd1xhlg— Stipe Miocic (@stipemiocic) May 11, 2020
The UFC Heavyweight Champion had previously stated that he may not compete until the coronavirus pandemic ends, as Miocic is also a firemen in the state of Ohio.
Dana White had previously hinted that Miocic could be stripped of the heavyweight title, but no official decision has been made at this time. Cormier has also stated, after this past weekend’s UFC 249 card, that a bout with Francis Ngannou for the potentially vacant UFC Heavyweight Title could go down.
