Tony Ferguson Says His Fight’s The Real Main Event Of UFC 209; Tyron Woodley Responds

Tony Ferguson will be battling Khabib Nurmagomedov for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title at UFC 209, the bout will be serving as the co-main event of the show.

While Ferguson is happy to be fighting for some UFC gold, he feels that his fight should be the main event of the show, not the UFC Welterweight Title Fight between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson.

“(Khabib) pissed me off. I’m going to drag him into deep waters with a hammerhead. You guys are going to see f—king fireworks. This should be the main event!” Ferguson stated during the UFC 209 conference call. "I don’t know why Stephen Thompson vs T. Woodley is the main event, but this is the shit everyone is talking about. This is the third time (the fight was booked), and third time’s the charm.”

Woodley was taking part in the same conference call, alongside other UFC 209 participants Khabib Nurmagomedov and Stephen Thompson. The UFC Welterweight Champion issued a short response to the query from Ferguson.

“Because I’m a world champion, and you’re not,” Woodley quipped. “That’s why it’s the main event.”

UFC 209 takes place on Saturday, March 4 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
