Tyson Fury still does not have an opponent for his U.S. return, but there is one name he does have in mind.
During an interview with Behind The Gloves, Fury spoke about his upcoming fight, set for either September or October, potentially in New York. While he didn't confirm anything in regards to who his opponent will be, one named certainly popped up: Trevor Bryan.
Bryan's name wasn't the first to be brought up as Fury's next opponent. Fury's British promoter Frank Warren recently penned an article saying he would be open to the idea of him facing unbeaten contender Jarrell Miller.
Although Miller recently met with Top Rank, Fury's American promoters, there is no indication of when Miller will fight again after failing multiple drug tests in March, resulting in him getting denied a license to fight Anthony Joshua on June 1. Miller is not suspended by any commission due to him not having a license to box at the time of the drug tests, but commissions due to still have a right to deny him a license due to the close proximity of the failed exams.
The 29-year-old Bryan, unbeaten in 20 pro bouts, is currently ranked No. 1 by the WBA at heavyweight and also holds the interim title. Bryan has not fought since beating BJ Flores to win the belt back in August 2018. Bryan was one of several heavyweights who called out Joshua to fight him after Miller was ruled out as Joshua's opponent. Bryan was overlooked almost immediately in favor of Andy Ruiz Jr., who would go on to beat the British star to win the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
Fury, on the other hand, is fighting a second time this year after his first fight saw him stop Tom Schwarz, another unbeaten and untested heavyweight, on June 15 in Las Vegas. That fight served as Fury's debut as a Top Rank fighter after he signed a multi-year promotional deal with Top Rank.
Throughout the course of the deal with Top Rank, it is expected that Fury and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will have a rematch to their December 2018 pay-per-view bout that ended in a draw. Both have stated that they will face each other once more in the future, more than likely in the first half of 2020.
